IntroAny one that knows me from the
zoomermrs8+ group will know that I have produced very little material. I have huge periods of not writing (the last bout of writers block lasted about 3 years!) and although I have used my recording equipment on uncountable amounts of 'ideas' and 'first drafts' I hardly ever finish anything.
But this is how I work and it's what I do. I have no aspirations to be a rock star and it's far too late for me to change career and work towards sound engineering/production.
But I am a complete geek when I comes to understanding how something works. I just can't help trawling through every word of every manual and then going away and hitting wikipedia and google and finding out everything I can about a subject. This holds true for home recording.....
Home recording is my favourite past time, when I retire I will lock myself away in a small room with an 8 track and a guitar and happily become a hermit (except for when I come across something I don't know how to do and it will be straight back to the Internet!!)
All the info the I have contributed to this site is a product of my amateur brain and I hope it is not riddled with mistakes. But then that is the good thing about a Wiki. If you, as the reader, spot a mistake you can correct it and I will be eternally grateful for another lesson learned!
05 Feb 2008Started playing again last week after a huge break. Have dusted off the acoustic and unburied the piano from under a pile of kids toys. I am really happy with my guitar playing considering the long gap, have been studying music theory the last few days and it have really helped me get through the blocks. The Piano is still a complete enigma to me. I know the basic chord shapes but I still finding it impossible to string them together smoothly in to a listenable progression.
Recording wise, I have a few ideas I want to lay down this week.... here I go again! Laying down ten ideas and not finishing one of them! Can someone tell me how to concentrate? How do
you do it?
I think to get things started I will make some Audio snippets that I can attach to some of the tutorials on this site. Things like Cross fade examples and EQ demonstrations. Then when I'm warmed up I'll see what happens....
