Folks I am thinking of buying an MRS8 to use as a backing track player for live gigs. The idea to have guitar,drums,brass, and keyboards on separate tracks, set up a playlist of songs each with these track splits and play the playlist on the night... seems doable however I see one line in the manual that seems to thwart me and it is as follow( on page 133)
" HINT During playback, you can use the [MASTER] fader to adjust the playback volume. (Other faders have no effect.)" This seems to suggest that during playback I can adjust the relative volume of the tracks that comprise each song... does anyone have experience of this? Thanks Tony |

Hi folks. I use an MRS8 everyday. The #1 button weakened and partially fell into the case. It won't press the contacts anymore. Gently use a plastic knife (cut it down to fit into the small square hole). You will feel the contact and the lights will still function. The contact area is in the upper area of the square. I hope I have helped someone who has, or may encounter this common problem. Happy Mixing.

I bought a used MRS 802 with the burner installed and also a mic/power source. I hate to read manuals, so if I could get a shortcut mehtod to do the below I would be SOOOO greatful... all I want to do is load a soundtrack (CD track) and then add my vocal to it and mix it down to a file or cd. I have figured out how to load the track into the project, now ready to add a vocal and then get it to cd or my PC. This is all I will ever do with this unit... thanks!

| Silasdog | I Cannot Bounce The Drum Track, What Am I Doing Wrong | 1 | Oct 26 2008, 4:13 AM EDT by jimis101 | ||||

I am totally frustrated. I am trying to bounce the drum track onto an
empty track. The card is new 2GB, with plenty of room on it. I have gone over the instructions 50 times. I simply do not get a display reading from the destination track (7/8) that I am trying to bounce onto. I also tried to work this out on a smaller card 128MB and saw a display reading and got a successful bounce for about 30 seconds and then the drum track recording died out. I don't know what I am missing. Note, the tracks on the larger card were copies from originals that I had previously copied on my computer as a backup. The data.file and the rhythm seq files are in there. Please help me if you can. I cannot go forward with my music. I am ready to try any alternative. I am desperate. Regards, Tom

Being a novice to home recording, I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, however I think I'm following the instructions correctly. This is my problem: I am trying to record my guitar on 1 track and my singing on another. I try to select track 1 and track 3 as per the instruction, this does not happen. I"m able to select track 1 & 2, however the guitar and voice are on both tracks when played back. Any guidance will be most appreciated.MAHALO!

I wrote these guides to understanding multitracking and vTakes a while ago and reading them back, I am not happy with the annalogy of dictaphones! I hope that someone with a better understanding of the technical side of things can provide much better guides!

Just wanted to point out a possible error in the MRS-8 Guide for Mixdown. The guide states that before bouncing the tracks to the Master track that you should
"Adjust each Channels faders in turn while listening to the whole mix. Get an even balance between the sounds. Run through the whole thing. Can you identify each instrument? Is one instrument over powering the others?" Then it goes on to suggest the following: "Don't touch any of the faders, they will affect the Mixdown." This, IMHO is not the best advice. My suggestion is to PRACTICE the Mixdown several times, during which you WILL surely MIX by ADJUSTING the FADERS. This is the essence of MIXING! An exsample would be a live "fade-out" of a vocal or subtle raising of a signature guitar lick. Putting your HANDS on the FADERS and MANIPULATING them is essential to the craft of MIXING. The benefit of the MRS-8's Master V-Takes, is that you can create several MIXES and compare them to determine the finest one. I felt compelled to mention this as I am employed as a Sound Engineer and must MIX ever time while on the job. No amount of compression or limiting will allow you to totally "set the levels" and be done with it. In digital studios consoles are equipped with moving, or "flying" faders which help an engineer MIX the final cut. Hope this helps and gives some of you the "freedom" to MIX while MIXING DOWN!! |

Is it neccessary to transfer the bass line to a spare track , like the drums, so that it is audible with the card reader software? If so, any possibility of a demo some time? Thanks

When you enter a formula in FAST, say 0+(2x3) or whatever, does the "0" correspond to patter 500? and "2" is 502 etc? If not, what then?
Thanks. JB

There is already a well established forum that covers Home recording and Zoom equipment that can be found here:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/zoommrs8/ Please use the forums on the survival guide pages for topics relating to the wiki and its content, not general home recording questions. many thanks, Jimis
